Things to do in Rann of Kutch

A salt desert behind a border checkpost and a town that rebuilt itself after 2001, with no transport at all once you leave Bhuj.

Getting around Kutch

Bhuj's palaces are a few kilometres apart but keep long afternoon closures, and the White Rann is 80 km north up the Khavda road behind a checkpost that writes a permit against every visitor's original ID. Nothing runs back down that road after dark. Every experience below includes the vehicle, a local driver and the wait through sunset where it matters.

Best months

November to February. The flat is under monsoon water and closed to visitors from roughly June to October, and full moon nights in that winter window are the best of it.

Getting there

Bhuj has daily flights from Mumbai and Ahmedabad and an overnight train from both. By road Ahmedabad is about 7 hrs. The White Rann is a further 80 km north of Bhuj.
