The classic first-timer's Japan, done properly. Three nights in Tokyo: the Imperial Palace, Sensoji and Nakamise's snack street, the Shibuya crossing, Tokyo Skytree, Odaiba and Akihabara, plus a full day out to Nikko's ornate Toshogu shrine, Kegon waterfall and Lake Chuzenji. Then the day everyone waits for: Mount Fuji's 5th Station, Hakone's ropeway over the volcanic Owakudani valley, and a cruise on Lake Ashi, before the bullet train whisks the group to Kyoto. Three nights in Japan's old capital: the golden Kinkakuji, Arashiyama's bamboo grove, the endless red gates of Fushimi Inari, Gion's lantern-lit lanes, the deer of Nara and the giant Buddha at Todaiji, and the Sagano scenic railway. A day trip north to Amanohashidate, one of Japan's three great views, and the boat-house village of Ine. Then Osaka: the castle, the Umeda Sky Building, and a last night in the neon of Dotonbori before flying home from Kansai. Private vehicles throughout, hotel-to-hotel touring, and the Tokyo to Kyoto leg by bullet train.
