Day by day

Day 1: Arrival in Osaka

Arrive at Kansai International Airport and meet your English-speaking assistant. In the evening, a welcome dinner at an izakaya (Japanese course with all-you-can-drink) introduces you to Japan.

Day 2: Osaka > Nara > Kyoto

Transfer to Nara to visit the free-roaming deer of Nara Park and the great Todaiji Temple, then continue to Kyoto for the night.

Day 3: Kyoto

Sightseeing in Kyoto: Kinkakuji (the Golden Pavilion), a stroll through the Arashiyama bamboo forest, and the historic Sannenzaka lanes.

Day 4: Kyoto > Tokyo

Take the bullet train from Kyoto to Tokyo (about 2.5 hours, with Mt Fuji views on a clear day). Meet your Tokyo guide and visit Meiji Jingu Shrine and Harajuku.

Day 5: Tokyo

A day of Tokyo sightseeing, including Tokyo Skytree and the city's landmark neighbourhoods.

Day 6: Tokyo > Yamanashi > Tokyo

A day trip to Yamanashi: the spring ponds of Oshino Hakkai, Lake Kawaguchi and the Mt Fuji World Heritage Centre, with a local Hoto Udon lunch before returning to Tokyo.

Day 7: Departure from Tokyo

Transfer to Narita International Airport for your onward flight.
