One free morning, done properly
Most people arrive in Udaipur with one free morning. This is that morning done properly: the City Palace at its quietest, the temple a short walk away, and the fountain garden before the heat.
Same car and driver arrangement as the full day, cut to the three stops nobody should miss, at a price that works as a first booking rather than a splurge.
It runs twice a day. Take the morning slot if you can; the palace is emptiest at opening and the courtyards light better.
Your day, stop by stop
1. City Palace complex
The Mewar royal residence above the lake. Mor Chowk, the Zenana Mahal courtyards and the terrace views over Pichola. Two hours, and the one stop that cannot be rushed.
Entry ticket, Crystal Gallery ticket and a camera fee
2. Jagdish Temple
The 1651 temple a short walk from the palace gate, raised on a carved plinth with elephants at the steps. Shoes off.
3. Saheliyon ki Bari
Lotus pools, marble pavilions and the pumpless fountains fed by the lake above. Forty five quiet minutes.
Entry ticket
4. Gulab Bagh and the Vintage Car Museum
Added only if the palace ran short. The rose garden and the Mewar royal garage.

Heat, not rain
Nothing on this route closes for weather. From April to June take the morning slot: the palace terraces are open stone and are punishing by midday. The route runs in rain.

Questions
Which slot should we take?
The 9:00 am one. The palace is quietest at opening, the courtyards light better in the morning, and you are out before the heat. The 1:30 pm slot exists for people arriving on a midday train, and it finishes with Saheliyon ki Bari at its best, fountains running in low light.
What is the difference between this and the full day?
This is the first three stops of it. The full day adds a lakeside lunch, the Vintage Car Museum and the Pichola boat at golden hour, and runs nine hours.
Can we add the boat ride to this?
Not inside five hours. The boat's good departures are late afternoon, which is after this ends. Book the sunset and folk evening as a second four hour slot, or take the full day.
