Things to do in Udaipur
Two great Mewar days out of the lake city: Kumbhalgarh's wall and the Ranakpur marble, then the long plateau of Chittorgarh.
Getting around Udaipur
App cabs work inside the city, but Kumbhalgarh, Ranakpur and Chittorgarh are 85 to 115 km out, and nothing there waits for you outside a fort. Ranakpur admits non-Jain visitors only from noon to 5 pm, and Chittorgarh's monuments are spread over kilometres of hilltop. Every experience below includes the vehicle, a local driver, fuel, tolls and parking.
Experiences
- Kumbhalgarh Fort and Ranakpur temple: The wall across the Aravallis, then 1,444 marble pillars in the afternoon window
- Chittorgarh Fort from Udaipur: The largest fort in Rajasthan, driven end to end on its own plateau
Best months
October to March. April to June is fiercely hot for fort walking; July to September is the monsoon, green but wet.
Getting there
Udaipur airport at Dabok is about 25 km from the city. Udaipur City station is on the main rail network.
