Waterfall circuit by jeep

Sakleshpur · 6 hrs · Jeep included · Pickup from your stay

From ₹2800 for the whole vehicle, up to 8 people. The price is per car, not per person.

Vehicles

  • Swift Dzire: Sedan. Best for a couple or a small family. ₹2800 for the vehicle.
  • Tata Sumo: Rugged 8-seater. The most room for the money. ₹3300 for the vehicle.
  • Innova or Ertiga: The comfortable one on a long day. ₹4500 for the vehicle.

The falls behind the estates

Sakleshpur's waterfalls hide down estate tracks: Mookanamane's plunge pool, the stepped cascades above Hanbal, and a third that locals rotate depending on flow and leech season. None of them have car parks. All of them have that specific joy of arriving somewhere the road tried to keep you from.

The tracks are the filter. They are rutted estate mud, streams run across them half the year, and the last stretch to each is on foot. A registered local jeep turns that from an obstacle course into the fun part of the day.

Three falls, one vehicle booked for your group, a guide who knows which pool is safe this month, and a packed lunch eaten with your feet in the water. Four of you pay what one would.

Why by jeep, why guided

The tracks decide

Estate mud, stream fords, no signage. The jeep and driver are not a luxury on this circuit; they are the circuit.

Flow changes weekly

Which falls are worth it, and which pools are safe, shifts with the rain. Your guide picks the day's best three.

Safe water time

Every pool stop is at guide-checked spots with clear boundaries. You get wet without the risk stories.

Where you'll go

1. The first falls

A plunge pool reached before anyone else is awake, with the light still coming sideways through the trees. Mookanamane most of the year, flow permitting.

2. The stepped cascades

Water dropping in stages above Hanbal, and the day's main swim stop. The guide marks the safe boundary before anyone gets in.

3. The third falls

The one that rotates. Which fall makes the cut depends on flow and leech season that week, and your guide picks the best of them on the morning.

4. Lunch by the water

A packed lunch eaten on rock with your feet in the stream. It is in your booking, so nothing changes hands here.

How you get there

Registered jeep, estate permissions handled

The circuit crosses private estate land with permissions a licensed local operator maintains. You book the vehicle for your group, not a seat: a Swift Dzire size for up to four or an Innova or Ertiga size for up to six, and on the estate tracks a registered jeep of the same capacity does the driving at no extra cost. Driver, guide and all access fees are in the price.

  • Pickup: Your stay in or around Sakleshpur at 7:30 am

  • Estate tracks: Registered jeep of the same size, included, no gate fee

  • Drop: Back by about 1:30 pm

Who this suits

You should be comfortable walking on uneven wet ground. Children over 8 who swim are welcome. Not suitable in pregnancy. Non-swimmers can enjoy every stop from the shallows. The vehicle seats four, six or eight depending on which you pick.

What to bring

Swimwear, two changes, towel, wet-friendly shoes, dry bag, and leech socks or repellent in the monsoon months.

Heavy rain rules

In active heavy rain the pools become unsafe and the circuit does not run. That call is made by 9 pm the night before, or at the first stop if the weather turns. Any cancelled circuit is a full refund or free reschedule; a circuit cut short after two falls is a half refund.

Cancellation

  • More than 24 hrs before: Full refund
  • Within 24 hrs: 50% refund, or reschedule free once
  • No show: No refund

Safety and the operator

Swim stops are at guide-checked pools only, with defined boundaries and the guide on the bank. Water depth and current are re-checked every single visit because they change with every rain.

Questions

Is the price per person?

No. It buys the vehicle and the guide for your group. Six of you pay exactly what two would.

Which falls exactly?

It depends on flow and access that week, which is the honest answer and the reason the circuit stays good. Mookanamane features most of the year.

Can non-swimmers come?

Yes. Every stop has shallow areas, and the guide marks them clearly.

Is monsoon the best time?

The falls are biggest July to September, but pools are wilder and some closures happen. October to January is the sweet spot of flow plus safety.
