Spend a day inside the estate wall
Sakleshpur is estate country before it is anything else: coffee under silver oak, cardamom in the wet folds, pepper on every trunk. The estates are private, which is why most visitors only ever see them as a green blur from the highway.
This is a full day inside one, hosted by the family that runs it. The morning is the working estate: the wet mill, the drying yards, the cardamom curing shed when it is running. Lunch is at the planter's table, cooked in the estate kitchen, and it is the meal people write to us about afterwards.
The afternoon is yours to be slow in: the estate's own viewpoint, the stream, a hammock under the shade trees, and coffee before the drive back. You book the car for the whole day, so the price is the same for two of you or for six.
Why this day is hard to arrange yourself
Private land, real access
This estate does not take walk-ins. The gate opens for hosted small groups, which is what your booking is.
The lunch is the event
Malnad cooking done at home scale: estate vegetables, akki rotti off the pan, the family's own coffee to finish. It is in your price, not billed at the table.
Hosted, not toured
You spend the day with the people who run the place. The conversation is the product, and the car is booked for the whole of it rather than by the head.
Where you'll go
1. The estate gate
Thirty to forty minutes out of town on plantation roads, then a gate that does not open for walk-ins. It opens for you because the day is hosted.
2. The wet mill and drying yards
Where the cherry becomes parchment. You see the pulping, the fermentation tanks and the yards, with the crop calendar explained by someone living it.
3. The cardamom curing shed
Racks of green pods drying over slow heat, roughly August to December. Outside those months you get the shed and the story rather than the smell.
4. The planter's table
Malnad cooking at home scale: estate vegetables, akki rotti straight off the pan, and the family's own coffee to finish. This is the part people write to us about.
5. The estate viewpoint and stream
The family's own lookout over the valley, then a shallow stream and hammocks under the shade trees. Nothing is scheduled for this part on purpose.
How you get there
Car there and back, yours for the day
The estate is 30 to 40 minutes from town on plantation roads. Your vehicle collects you, stays with you through the day and brings you back at the end. The rate is for the vehicle, not per seat.
- Pickup: Your stay in or around Sakleshpur at 9:00 am
- Vehicle: Swift Dzire up to 4, Tata Sumo up to 8, or Innova / Ertiga up to 6, with driver
- Walking: About 3 km across the day, all gentle
- Drop: Back by about 3:00 pm

Who this suits
Everyone from families to couples. The pace is deliberately slow. Children love the stream; bring a change of clothes for them. The car seats four or six depending on which you pick, at the same price either way.
What to bring
Walking shoes, sun protection, repellent in the wet months, and a swim-adjacent change for the stream if tempted.
Rain is part of estate life
The day runs in most weather; the estate has cover and the monsoon has its own beauty here. Only a genuine washout triggers a reschedule or refund, your choice.

Safety and the operator
A working estate with machinery in specific zones; the host keeps guests to the safe paths. The stream stop is shallow and supervised.
Questions
Is the price per person?
No, it is the price of the car for the whole day, lunch for your group included. Six in an Innova pay what two would.
Is the lunch vegetarian?
By default, and it is the estate's own tradition. Non-vegetarian can be arranged with notice at checkout.
Can we stay overnight?
Not on this booking, but the estate has occasional homestay rooms. Ask on WhatsApp after booking and we will connect you.
Is the cardamom shed always running?
Curing follows the harvest, roughly August to December. Outside those months you see the shed and the story; in them, you smell it.
