The hour most itineraries miss
Udaipur's best hour is the one most itineraries miss, because by late afternoon the monuments are closing and people go back to the hotel. This evening is built for exactly that window.
Up to Sajjangarh for the sunset over the whole bowl of the city and its lakes, then down into the old city for the one cultural performance here worth a ticket, and out onto the ghats when the palaces are lit.
It pairs with the heritage half day to make a full day at two separate bookings, which is usually a better use of the daylight than one long nine hour run.
Your day, stop by stop
1. Fateh Sagar Lake
The lakeside road with the island garden in the middle and the Aravallis behind it. A short stop at the parapet, not a boat.
2. Sajjangarh, the Monsoon Palace
The 19th century hilltop palace built to watch the monsoon arrive. The whole city and its lakes from the terrace, and the best sunset in Udaipur.
Sanctuary entry, palace ticket and the shuttle up from the lower gate
3. Bagore ki Haveli and the Dharohar show
An 18th century haveli on Gangaur Ghat, and one show a day in its courtyard: Mewari and Rajasthani dance, the bhavai pot balancing, and puppetry. An hour.
Show ticket and a separate camera fee
4. Gangaur and Ambrai ghats after dark
Out onto the steps when the show ends, with the City Palace and the Lake Palace lit across the water.

Who this suits
Anyone with an afternoon free and no appetite for another monument queue. The Sajjangarh terrace involves either a shuttle ride or a steady uphill walk; the shuttle makes it manageable for most people. The haveli courtyard is seated on the floor and on benches, so say at booking if that is a problem.
What to bring
A light layer for the hill, which is windy after sunset even in summer, cash for the gate and the show, and a phone or camera you are happy to pay the fee for at the haveli.
An overcast evening still works, a shut road does not
The view from Sajjangarh is about the drop rather than the sun, so a grey evening is still worth the climb, and we will say so at pickup rather than let you expect a sunset. The Dharohar show runs in all weather under cover. In heavy monsoon rain the sanctuary road occasionally shuts; if that happens the evening runs from Fateh Sagar and the show, and you are told before you leave.

Questions
Can we drive all the way up to the Monsoon Palace?
Usually not. Sajjangarh sits inside a wildlife sanctuary and private vehicles are stopped at the lower gate, with a forest department shuttle doing the last climb. That fare and the sanctuary entry are paid at the gate, per person. It is the one part of this evening we cannot put inside the car price.
What time does the folk show start?
There is one show a day in the early evening, and the start time shifts a little by season. The evening is timed to put you at the haveli with time to buy a ticket, not to arrive as the lights go down.
Is there a boat ride in this?
No. The boat's good departures clash with the sunset on the hill, and you cannot do both well in one evening. The boat is part of the full city day.
How late does it finish?
Back at your stay by about 8:30 pm. If you want dinner on the lake afterwards, say so at pickup and the driver will drop you at Ambrai or Gangaur Ghat instead of the hotel.
