Things to do in Puri
The temple town on the Bay of Bengal, with two days out of it: the coast road to the Sun Temple at Konark, and the Chilika lagoon at Satapada.
Getting around Puri
App cabs reach Puri from Bhubaneswar but are patchy in town, and the Marine Drive to Konark and the road to Satapada are outstation runs where nothing waits for you. The Jagannath Temple admits Hindus only and cars are stopped well short of it, so it is done on foot. Every experience below includes the vehicle, a local driver and the parking.
Experiences
- Konark Sun Temple and the Marine Drive: The coast road out to the stone chariot, before the coaches and the heat
- Chilika at Satapada and Raghurajpur: A morning on the lagoon looking for dolphins, an afternoon with the painters
Best months
October to March. April to June is very hot; the monsoon runs June to September, and Rath Yatra in June or July brings the biggest crowds of the year.
Getting there
About 1.5 hrs by road from Bhubaneswar airport; Puri has its own railway station in town.
