Things to do in Mussoorie
The hill station above Dehradun, with two days in it: Kempty, the Mall and Landour from the plains, then the ridge road to Dhanaulti and Surkanda Devi.
Getting around Mussoorie
The Dehradun ghat road, the Kempty road and the Mall all jam on Delhi weekends, parking in town is scarce and paid, and Landour limits tourist cars on busy days. Kempty and Dhanaulti are outside town on narrow roads with nothing to hail. Every experience below includes the vehicle, a local driver and the parking.
Experiences
- Mussoorie, Kempty Falls and Landour from Dehradun: Up the ghat from Dehradun, Kempty before the jam, Landour after lunch
- Dhanaulti and Surkanda Devi: The hilltop temple while the peaks are clear, then the deodar forest
Best months
March to June and September to November. Weekends in May and June are the most crowded; July and August bring landslides on the ghat roads; December to February is cold, with snow some years at Dhanaulti.
Getting there
About 35 km and 1.5 hrs up the ghat from Dehradun, which has the railway station, with Jolly Grant airport about an hour beyond the city. Dehradun is about 6 hrs from Delhi by road.
