Things to do in Munnar

Tea to the horizon, and a handful of roads that all leave town at once. The good hours are early, and the last climb into Eravikulam is not yours to drive.

Getting around Munnar

Everything worth seeing sits 10 to 60 km out on single-lane hill roads, in three different directions, and the viewpoints change character by the hour. Inside Eravikulam private vehicles stop at the gate and a forest department bus does the rest. Every experience below includes the vehicle, a local driver and the waiting time.

Experiences

• Mattupetty, Echo Point and Top Station: The one road out of Munnar that everybody means
• Attukad falls and the Chinnakanal road: Two waterfalls, one dam, and the road most visitors miss
• Eravikulam, Marayoor and Chinnar: Tahr on the grasslands, sandalwood forest, and the dry side of the hills

Best months

September to March. June to August is heavy monsoon, and Eravikulam usually closes for about two months in the tahr calving season, February into March.

About 4 hrs from Kochi by road; nearest airport Cochin, 3.5 hrs, and nearest railhead Aluva, 3.5 hrs away.
