Things to do in Kaziranga and Majuli

Rhino country and a river island: a jeep safari day from Kohora, and a ferry day from Jorhat to the satras of Majuli.

Getting around Kaziranga and Majuli

Inside Kaziranga only the park's registered safari jeeps run, on permits booked in advance; outside it, stays are strung along the highway with almost nothing to hail. Majuli is reached only by government ferry from Neamati ghat near Jorhat. Every experience below includes the vehicle and a local driver; safari jeeps, park permits and passenger ferry tickets are paid locally.

Best months

November to April. Kaziranga reopened for the 2026 to 2027 season on 3 October and usually closes for the monsoon from late May, with ranges opening in phases. Majuli's ferry is most reliable from October to March, though low water can shift the crossing.

Getting there

Kohora is about 4.5 to 5 hrs by road from Guwahati, or about 2 hrs from Jorhat airport. Jorhat has an airport and a railway station; Neamati ghat is about 14 km north of town.
