The difference between a great group trip and a disaster is usually decided months before departure, in operator selection. We publish our certification bar so creators and travellers can hold us to it.
Check 1: Licensing and registration
Every operator must hold current operating licenses and company registration for each destination they serve. Documents are collected and verified, not taken on trust, and re-checked when licenses come up for renewal.
Check 2: Liability insurance
Group operations need real coverage. We verify each operator's liability insurance before the first departure, and the policy details become part of the written pack shared with hosts and travellers.
Check 3: References and track record
Operators show us comparable group departures they have delivered, and we speak to references. Tripadvisor and SafariBookings histories, association memberships and years in operation all feed the picture. New companies without a track record are not certified, full stop.
Check 4: Safety and contingency protocols
We require documented protocols for medical situations, weather disruption and itinerary changes: hospitals mapped per overnight stop, vehicle maintenance standards, guide qualifications and a named on-ground emergency contact. If it isn't written down, it doesn't count.
Operators who clear all four checks get certified, quoted and eventually named on this site as trips confirm. Operators who clear three out of four get a polite no.
Why the bar is set this high
Group travel goes wrong in the gaps: an unlicensed operator, a missing insurance policy, a guide with no plan for a medical emergency far from a hospital. None of these show up in a glossy brochure, and all of them surface at the worst possible moment. A creator's credibility is built over years and can be damaged by a single bad departure, so the vetting exists to protect the creator and the traveller before anyone leaves home.
It is also why we act as the operator-of-record rather than simply introducing a creator to a ground operator and stepping back. The certification is a standard we are accountable to, not a favour we do the operator.
