What the car does, and what the park does
Kaziranga is the one place in Assam where you cannot simply drive in. Inside the park only registered safari jeeps run, with a forest guide, in two daily slots, on permits booked against your ID. For the 2026 to 2027 season the park reopened on 3 October with the Central (Kohora) and Western (Bagori) ranges, morning entry from 7:30 to 10:00 and afternoon entry from 1:30 to 3:00; the Eastern (Agaratoli) and Burapahar ranges open in phases after that, by forest department order.
So this booking is two things that must be kept apart. The car and driver are ours, for the whole day, at one flat price. The safari jeep, the permit, the guide and the park fees are the park's, booked in your name by a licensed local ground operator once you confirm, and paid locally at the park's rates. We say it plainly because it is the one thing people get wrong about Kaziranga.
The day runs from Kohora: the car takes you to the jeep point for the morning slot in the Central range, waits, then takes you to the orchid park, lunch, and either the afternoon slot at Bagori or the tea gardens. Kohora stays are spread several kilometres along the highway with no local taxis to speak of, which is the other reason to have a car for the day.
Your day, stop by stop
1. Central range morning jeep safari
The Kohora range, the busiest and usually the most reliable for rhino, wild buffalo, swamp deer and elephants on the open grassland and around the beels. You go in a registered park jeep with a forest guide; outside cars do not enter the tracks.
Safari jeep, park permit, guide and park fees, booked in your name and paid locally
2. Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park
A few minutes from the Central range at Durgapur, Kohora: orchid houses with hundreds of species, a cactus and fern collection, a rice and bamboo section and local food stalls. Best in bloom from March to April, worth the hour in any month.
Entry ticket at the gate
3. Western range afternoon jeep safari (optional)
Bagori, about 20 km west along the highway, in the afternoon slot. Denser rhino country than many people expect, and a different landscape from the morning. Skip it if one safari is enough; the car takes you to the tea gardens instead.
Second safari jeep, permit and park fees, paid locally if you take it
4. A tea garden walk near Kohora
The tea estates run right up to the highway south of the park. A walk between the rows in the late afternoon, and a cup at a garden that serves one, is the gentlest way to end a day that started before seven.
Tea tasting, where the estate charges for it

Who this suits
Anyone who wants to see rhino in the wild and can sit through an early start and a bumpy jeep track. The jeep is open and dusty; small children are fine on the morning slot but a second safari can be long for them. The sedan seats four, the Sumo eight and the Innova six, each at one flat price for the car.
What to bring
The original photo ID you gave for the permit, which is checked. Muted clothes, a warm layer for the open jeep in winter mornings, a scarf against the dust, binoculars, sun protection and cash for the park and lunch.
The park keeps its own calendar
Kaziranga closes for the monsoon, usually from late May to early October, and a range can be shut at short notice for flooding, animal movement or official orders. Further rules for this season, including a possible weekly closure of one range and limits on phone use inside the park, were awaiting formal notification when we wrote this; we follow whatever is in force. If the park closes your range before pickup, you get a full refund or a free reschedule on the car.
Cancellation
- More than 24 hrs before: Full refund on the car
- Within 24 hrs: 50% refund on the car, or reschedule free once
- No show: No refund
- Safari jeep and permit, once booked: Not refundable through us; they follow the park's own terms
Safety and the operator
Run by a licensed local ground operator, one driver per vehicle, commercially registered and insured. Inside the park, stay seated in the jeep, keep quiet near animals and follow the forest guide without argument; rhino and wild buffalo charge vehicles. Never step out of the jeep except where the guide allows.
Questions
Is the safari included in the price?
No. The price is for the car and driver for the day, flat per vehicle: ₹2,990 for the Swift Dzire, ₹3,490 for the Tata Sumo, ₹4,990 for the Innova or Ertiga. The safari jeep, permit, guide and park fees are booked in your name and paid locally at the park's rates.
Can we drive our own car into the park?
No. Only the park's registered safari jeeps go in, with a forest guide. Your car takes you to the jeep point and waits.
Will we see a rhino?
In the Central and Western ranges, very likely, because the grassland is open and the population is large. Tigers are another matter: they are there and almost nobody sees one. Nothing in a wild park is guaranteed.
Can we do the Eastern or Burapahar range instead?
Once they are open for the season, yes, tell us when you book. They open in phases after the Central and Western ranges, and are further from Kohora, so the day changes shape.
